In the dry state, it is quite stable in the air, but in an aqueous solution, it is easy to oxidize when exposed to air, metal, heat, and light. It is easily soluble in water, the solubility is 55 g/100 mL, the pH of 1% aqueous solution is 7.4, and it is almost insoluble in ethanol.
