Propylthiouracil, known chemically as 6-propyl-2-thiouracil, is an organic compound with the formula C7H10N2OS that inhibits the synthesis of thyroid hormones by inhibiting the thyroid peroxidase system, preventing the iodination of tyrosine and its condensation. Large doses (700mg daily) can reduce the conversion of T4 to T3 in the surrounding tissue. It also has immunosuppressive effects. Since this product only inhibits the synthesis of thyroid hormones, it has no effect on the synthesized thyroid hormones, so it takes 3 to 4 weeks to treat hyperthyroidism.
Application：
1. Inhibit thyroxine synthesis: propylthiouracil can inhibit the synthesis and release of thyroxine, thereby regulating the level of thyroxine and reducing the secretion of thyroxine.
