Description:
Para-aminophenol is a white flaky crystal. It has strong reducibility and is easily oxidized by oxygen in the air. When exposed to light and in the air, the color turns gray-brown. There are two types: α-type, which is a white to light yellow orthorhombic lamellar crystal, which is precipitated from water, ethanol and ethyl acetate; biconical crystals are precipitated from acetone. Under the influence of air and light, the color becomes darker rapidly, especially in moist air. The melting point is 189.6~190.2℃, and it can be sublimated without decomposition at 110℃ (1.467×103Pa). Boiling point 284 (decomposition). The solubility in absolute ethanol is 4.5% at 0°C, and the solubility in butanone is 9.3% at 58.5°C.
