Name:2,2-Azobisisobutyronitrile
CAS No.:78-67-1
Appearance: white crystal or powder
Molecular formula: C8H12N4
Azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) is a common free radical initiator, insoluble in water, soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, ether, toluene and other organic solvents and vinyl monomers. AIBN decomposes above 60 °C to form isobutyronitrile groups, which initiate free radical reactions. AIBN is flammable and toxic. When heated to 100℃, it decomposes rapidly and releases organic cyanide, which is harmful to human body. It can be used as initiator for radical polyaddition reaction (such as vinyl acetate, etc.); foaming agent for foam rubber and plastic; and as organic synthesis reagent.
