The successful development of Flurana has opened up a new research direction for GABA gated chloride ion channel interference agents, which has attracted the attention and favor of animal medicine and pesticide scientists. Flurana mainly acts by interfering with GABA gated chloride ion channels, similar to the targets of insecticides such as cyclopentadienes, phenylpyrazoles, and macrolides. Flurana is a broad-spectrum insecticide that has good insecticidal activity against pests such as ticks, fleas, lice, hemiptera, and diptera. Its toxicity is higher or equivalent to commonly used insecticides. Flurana not only has no significant cross resistance with existing insecticides, but also has good insecticidal activity against some resistant pests.
Application
At present, flurana has been commercialized as a veterinary drug and applied to the prevention and control of parasites. Since 2013, researchers from the German Institute of Animal Health Innovation have conducted a series of experimental studies on Flurana, using oral feeding methods to compare the control effects of Flurana, Frontline, and Scalibar on the dog parasite Ctenophora and mutated ticks. The results showed that Flurana had a very good killing effect on the fleas and ticks. In 2014, Merck commercialized the production of Bravecto as a veterinary drug for the first time, using flurana to kill dog parasites, lice, and fleas. A series of studies have shown that this drug can be quickly absorbed by dogs, with characteristics such as fast response, long half-life, long shelf life, and low metabolic rate. At present, the drug has been licensed and certified by the FDA in the United States, and has started to be sold and promoted in countries such as Europe and the United States. It is expected that its promotion in Asia and even China will be around the corner.
